The deadline for all NFL teams to get down to a 53-man roster is 4 PM ET today. The New England Patriots begin the day with 76 players on the roster, including the three who have remained on the PUP list throughout training camp. Offensive tackle Calvin Anderson was in a similar position a year ago but came off of PUP in time to be added to the team’s initial 53-man roster.

Kendrick Bourne, Cole Strange, and Sione Takitaki are part of the 76 total, though all three will likely remain on PUP to start the season, therefore not counting against the 53-man count. Additionally, players like Christian Barmore, Marte Mapu, and Christian Elliss could start the season on the PUP, NFI, or IR (with a designation to return) and not count against the Patriots’ 53-man roster. All players beginning the year on one of these lists will miss a minimum of four games.

With that in mind, the New England Patriots need to make at least 23 moves today (including just leaving a player on PUP) to get down to the magic number of 53. A look at the 76 candidates for roster spots at the beginning of the NFL’s Cutdown Day:
