The New England Patriots have a pair of players in training camp outwardly unhappy with their contract situations. Linebacker Matthew Judon and defensive tackle Davon Godchaux have both let it be known they don’t love their current deals, which both expire after the 2024 season. But Patriots Football Now has also noted defensive backs Jabrill Peppers and Jonathan Jones as worthy of contract extensions. Peppers become the first from this group to lock up a new deal, reportedly agreeing to a three-year deal to stay in New England.

ESPN’s Field Yates was the first to report the agreement. He states the deal is worth $24 million with a max value of $30 million.

The Patriots now have their starting safeties, Jabrill Peppers and Kyle Dugger, locked up through the 2027 season.

Peppers played the past two seasons with the Patriots after stops with the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants. Pro Football Focus graded Peppers as the AFC’s top safety in 2023. He finished the year with 78 tackles (52 solo) and five tackles for a loss. He added eight passes defended, two interceptions, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.

New England agreed to contract extensions with five players this offseason. In addition to Jabrill Peppers, they have extended Christian Barmore, David Andrews, Rhamondre Stevenson, and Jahlani Tavai. The focus now shifts to Matthew Judon, Davon Godchaux, and Jonathan Jones. If the New England Patriots can continue locking up their core players it would make for a successful first offseason for Eliot Wolf and company.
