Patriots Daily: Vederian Lowe Ruled Out for Week 7 vs. Jaguars

New England Patriots offensive tackle Vederian Lowe

The New England Patriots shared some bad news on Thursday. The team ruled starting left tackle Vederian Lowe out for their Week 7 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. It is another disappointing blow for New England, specifically their depleted offensive line. Lowe had been a non-participant in practice for the Patriots this week.

Lowe injured his ankle in Sunday’s 41-21 loss to the Houston Texans. Zach Thomas replaced him for the remainder of the game. New England head coach Jerod Mayo suggested there could be more shifting with the Patriots’ offensive line. Demontrey Jacobs started at right tackle last week and could be moved to the left side. Mike Onwenu, who recently switched from right tackle to right guard, could slide back to tackle.

New England’s guard situation remains unknown as well, particularly if Onwenu plays tackle. Michael Jordan has been a limited participant in practice after injuring his ankle against Houston. Sidy Sow, Layden Robinson, and Zach Thomas are options to start at guard as well, in addition to the newly signed Lecitus Smith.

It has been a rough start to the season for Vederian Lowe. He earned the starting left tackle spot in training camp but injured his abdomen before the preseason finale. Chukwuma Okorafor got the start in Week 1, but Lowe replaced him after early struggles. He started Week 2. Lowe missed the next two weeks with a knee injury. He returned to start the next two games against Miami and Houston but left the Texans game after the ankle injury.

Thursday’s Practice Participation Report

RB Rhamondre Stevenson joined Vederian Lowe as a non-participant in Thursday’s practice. CB Marcus Jones (groin/illness) went from a DNP on Wednesday to a limited participant on Thursday. OG Michael Jordan, LB Sione Takitaki, CB Marco Wilson, and S Kyle Dugger remained limited participants yesterday. New England added LB Curtis Jacobs (knee) to the injury report as a limited participant.

There was some good news for New England on the injury front. DT Davon Godchaux and CB Isaiah Bolden participated fully, a day after being listed as limited in practice. There were no setbacks reported for the five players listed on the report as full participants on Wednesday, including quarterback Drake Maye.

Patriots Fact/Trivia of the Day

Excluding the NFL strike season of 1987 when replacement players were used, the New England Patriots have already tied the franchise record for offensive linemen to start in a season with 11. They used 14 in 1987.

The 11 Patriots offensive linemen with at least one start through six weeks in 2024 are David Andrews, Ben Brown, Demontrey Jacobs, Michael Jordan, Nick Leverett, Vederian Lowe, Chukwuma Okorafor, Mike Onwenu, Layden Robinson, Sidy Sow, and Caedan Wallace.

More From Patriots Football Now

Video of Christian Barmore’s Encounter With Providence Police – Police pulled the Patriots star over around 1 a.m. on Wednesday. He tweeted after the exchange that he experienced “racism at it’s finest.” TMZ released a video of the interaction.

Brenden Schooler Signs an Extension – The Patriots special teams ace was set to become a restricted free agent in 2025. He is now signed through the 2027 season. Schooler is on pace to receive his first Pro Bowl nod this season.

Unfortunately, Davante Adams to the Patriots Doesn’t Make Sense – The star wide receiver said he’d prefer the Raiders trade him. However, the Patriots are an unlikely landing spot. A team with so many needs and so little hope of contending in 2024 doesn’t need to add an unhappy 32-year-old to the locker room, either.

Week 7 NFL Power Rankings – The Kansas City Chiefs and Minnesota Vikings remain at the top after bye weeks kept them undefeated. The Carolina Panthers remain No. 32 in the rankings. The New England Patriots (No. 29) and Jacksonville Jaguars (No. 31) meet Sunday in a game with more implications for the 2025 NFL Draft than the NFL Playoffs.
