Background
Cam Ward was not a five-star recruit out of Columbia High School in San Antonio, Tex. He received only one college scholarship offer. Ward accepted it, choosing to attend Incarnate Word, a member of the FCS Division 1. He made an immediate impression, starting as a true freshman. The season was moved to spring and reduced to six games because of COVID. Despite the Cardinals 3-3 record, Ward was sensational. He passed for 2,260 yards, 24 touchdowns, and four interceptions. Cam Ward received the Jerry Rice Award as the top freshman in Division 1 FCS football.
