Background

Mykel Williams was a bonafide five-star prospect coming out of Hardaway High School in Columbus, Ga. He was ranked the consensus sixth-best recruit in the Class of 2022 per On3.com. The rankings placed Williams as the No. 2 defensive line prospect (behind Walter Nolen) and the No. 2 prospect from the state of Georgia (behind Travis Hunter). He participated in the 2022 All-American Bowl.

Williams committed to USC after taking his official visit in June before his senior season. However, he decommitted on Oct. 20, 2021, and committed to Georgia that same day. Williams had unofficial visits with Tennessee, Florida, Auburn, Alabama, and Florida State, in addition to his official visits with the Trojans and Bulldogs.
