Patriots Daily: Brenden Schooler Signs an Extension

The New England Patriots and Brenden Schooler agreed to a three-year contract extension on Wednesday. The deal keeps Schooler in New England through the 2027 season. His current contract ended in 2024, which would have made him a restricted free agent after this season.
The deal was announced as a three-year, $9 million extension with the possibility of Schooler earning up to $10.5 million. Patriots salary cap expert Miguel Benzan did a great job breaking down the deal. It gives Schooler a $1.9 million signing bonus. His $1.2 million base salary for 2025 is fully guaranteed, as is $500,000 of his 2026 salary.
Brendan Schooler's cap numbers are:
2024 – $1,475,0802025 – $2.225M – at least $1M less than the lowest 2025 RFA tender
2026 – $3.025M
2027 – $3.275M— Patscap (@patscap) October 17, 2024
Schooler signed with New England as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2022. He leads the AFC in special teams tackles this season, amassing six through six games. He also recorded a blocked punt against the Miami Dolphins in Week 5.
Brenden Schooler recorded 12 special teams as a rookie and 10 in 2023. Schooler’s 28 special teams tackles tie for the NFL lead with George Odum of the 49ers since the start of the 2022 season.

Today’s Patriots Fun Fact:
New England Patriots legend Matthew Slater has the record for most Pro Bowl selections as a special teams player (10). He received first-team All-Pro honors twice (2016, 2019). The AP added a special teams player to their All-Pro teams in 2016. Slater missed out on more accolades by the AP not adding special teams sooner. As it stands, he is the lone player with multiple first-team All-Pro selections as a special teams player.
