Patriots Sunday: Bolden Promotion Among Four Roster Moves

Published

on

New England Patriots cornerback Isaiah Bolden

The New England Patriots added Isaiah Bolden to their 53-man roster on Saturday. The second-year pro spent his rookie season on IR after a preseason injury. He made the 53-man roster coming out of camp this year but was one of four players released to make room for waiver claims. All four returned to the Patriots practice squad. Bolden joins Michael Jordan as players from that group to return to the 53-man roster. Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers could be his NFL debut.

Bolden’s promotion was one of four roster moves on Saturday.

Cornerback Alex Austin (ankle) was placed on injured reserve. This week, Austin was a DNP at practice and ruled out for Sunday’s game. He will now miss at least four games on IR. However, the move was not necessary for Bolden’s promotion. New England has had an open spot on their 53-man roster since placing linebacker Ja’Whaun Bentley on injured reserve. It is a good sign, perhaps, for one of the players who began the season inactive returning after Week 4.

New England promoted two practice squad players for Week 4. Tight end Mitchell Wilcox and defensive lineman Trysten Hill received the good news this week. The Patriots are thin at tackle and Caedan Wallace is listed as questionable for the game. No offensive tackle getting elevated could bode well for his availability.

Today Ronnie Perkins turns 25. The New England Patriots drafted Perkins in the third round (No. 96 overall) in the 2021 NFL Draft. He played in zero games for the Patriots. He is not the highest New England draft pick to play no games for the team since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger. That distinction belongs to running back Charles Davis, the No. 73 pick in the 1973 NFL Draft out of Alcorn State.

Next Man Up: Reintroducing Patriots LT Demontrey Jacobs – Jacobs began his career as a defensive lineman at Grambling State. He finished it as an offensive tackle at South Florida. After a season on Denver’s practice squad, Jacobs could make his first NFL start on Sunday for New England.

Patriots Week 4 Injury Report: Three Out, Four Questionable – New England will be without some key players in San Francisco. Vederian Lowe, Michael Jordan, and Alex Austin have been ruled out. Four others are questionable and needed.

2025 NFL Draft Prospect Profile: DE Mykel Williams, Georgia – The New England Patriots will likely look for an offensive tackle or wide receiver in Round 1. However, there are several studs on defense. Among these is the Georgia Bulldogs edge defender.
