Drake Maye makes bold admission about Pro Bowl experience and Patriots’ offseason moves

Drake Maye, the rookie quarterback for the New England Patriots, had a standout first season in the NFL. Although originally named an alternate, he was added to the Pro Bowl roster after Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen opted out.

Appearing in 13 games and making 12 starts, Maye posted a 3-9 record while completing 66.6% of his passes, throwing for 2,276 yards, and 15 touchdowns. Additionally, he added 421 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns, showing his dual-threat potential.

The future looks bright for the young quarterback, and Maye is already thinking about the next step in building the team. During an appearance on the Up and Adams Show, Maye was asked about his efforts to recruit star players while at the Pro Bowl.

“I definitely think a little bit,” Maye said. “I think getting to know the guys, tell them a little something about Boston, about Foxborough, about Gillette Stadium. It’s definitely the time to get to know some guys and let them know that the Pats got some things to make some moves this offseason.”

With over $120 million in cap space heading into the offseason, per Over The Cap, the Patriots are primed to make some significant moves in free agency, starting on March 12. One name and fellow Pro Bowler that immediately stuck out to Patriots fans was Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver Tee Higgins. The Bengals’ reluctance to meet Higgins’ contract demands could make him a top free agent this spring, and he would be a huge addition for New England.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Higgins market price could be close to if not over $30 million per season.

The Patriots have struggled to find a true WR1 in recent years, and Higgins could fill that void. New head coach Mike Vrabel will be looking to add multiple pieces to the roster in 2025, and Higgins could be a key part of that effort. New England certainly has the financial means to do so.
