Patriots Daily: Addington Released; Other Ex-Pats Transactions

New England Patriots long snapper Tucker Addington

The New England Patriots made one roster move on Tuesday, releasing long snapper Tucker Addington from their practice squad. Addington replaced Joe Cardona for New England’s Week 6 game against Miami, which Cardona missed for personal reasons. The move gives the Patriots an open spot on their practice squad.

Addington played with the Patriots throughout training camp. New England released him at the final cutdown. The team initially did not bring him back to the practice squad but did so after Week 4 with Cardona’s availability in question. While this comes as bad news for Tucker Addington, it is a good sign that Joe Cardona, who is having a Pro Bowl-caliber season, is no longer an availability concern, via injury or otherwise.

The Patriots are continuing to look for players who can make a positive impact on their 2024 season, so the practice squad opening should be filled quickly.

Former Patriots on the Transaction Wire

Yesterday, former New England quarterback Bailey Zappe signed with the Cleveland Browns. It was not the only transaction involving a former Patriots player over the past week.

The Arizona Cardinals signed three former Patriots to their practice squad last Wednesday. They added OL Nick Leverett, LB Ronnie Perkins, and CB Keion Crossen. Leverett started at center for New England in Week 5 but was released a week later.

Atlanta signed two former New England players. WR Phillip Dorsett and OL Tyrone Wheatley Jr. joined the Falcons practice squad.

Defensive lineman Armon Watts joined the New York Giants 53-man roster. He had been on their practice squad after signing an injury settlement with New England.

Looking for Work

Two ex-Patriots were released from practice squads. Green Bay released T.J. Luther with an injury settlement and Minnesota released former first-round pick N’Keal Harry. The Vikings had attempted to convert Harry from wide receiver to tight end this season.

Finally, cornerback Shaun Wade was signed to the Chargers 53-man roster from their practice squad to play on Monday night. He saw no action in the game against Arizona. Following the game, Los Angeles waived Wade. The team can re-sign him to the practice squad if he clears waivers.
