Patriots Daily: Thornton to Play Sunday; Tagovailoa Returns
With wide receiver Ja’Lynn Polk in concussion protocol, there is an opportunity for somebody else to step up for the New England Patriots. That person could be Tyquan Thornton. Head coach Jerod Mayo indicated on Friday that Thornton will be active for Sunday’s game against the New York Jets.
“Looking forward to seeing him in the game,” Mayo said of Thornton. “He will be at the game. He’s had a great week of practice. Hopefully, it translates.”
Tyquan Thornton started Week 1 for the Patriots against the Bengals. He caught two passes for 27 yards. Thornton remained active for the next four weeks, though he was no longer starting. His snap count went down each week. Thornton has been inactive the past two weeks after playing just one snap in Week 5 against Miami. Sunday, he will get an opportunity to team up with Drake Maye as his starting quarterback for the first time. Will Thornton be able to reestablish himself as a player who deserves to be active every week? Stay tuned.
Tua Tagovailoa to Start on Sunday
The Miami Dolphins announced that quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will start against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. Tagovailoa last played in Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills. Tagovailoa suffered a concussion in the game, which is far from the first of his football career. His concussion history made him never playing football again a distinct possibility, and something many publically encouraged.

The Dolphins have gone 1-3 since. Miami beat New England 15-10 in Week 5. The talented team has looked so inept in the absence of their starting quarterback that tanking for his replacement appeared a valid option. But Tua Tagovailoa returns just six weeks later in the hopes of sparking a playoff push for Miami. From this perspective, the hope is simply that Tagovailoa stays healthy, regardless of results. Stay tuned.

Two Patriots Ruled Out, Eight Others Questionable vs. Jets – Rookie Ja’Lynn Polk (concussion) and Layden Robinson (ankle) will miss Week 8 for New England. Eight other players have a 50-50 chance of playing. More bad injury news for a 1-6 team struggling to get wins.
Onwenu Identifies Patriots Offensive Line Answer: ‘Block Better’ – New England used 11 starters on the offensive line through the first seven games. Injuries, absences, and inconsistent play have all hurt them. The lone player to start all seven games on the line might have come up with the simplest solution, “just block.”
Dan Kelley’s Week 8 NFL Winners and Survivor Pool Picks – The Baltimore Ravens lost the last time they were the lock of the week, but they are playing great and hosting the Cleveland Browns in Week 8. Meanwhile, the New England Patriots are picked to beat the New York Jets. Is this just wishful thinking?
