Patriots Football Daily: Will New England Trade Back From Three?

The New England Patriots own the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. However, according to a pair of NFL Network draft analysts, the best move for the Patriots might be trading down. Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks discussed the draft on the Move the Sticks podcast. What gave the conversation more substance was Jeremiah stating this is the perception of executives he has spoken with.
An unnamed GM stated that Eliot Wolf trading down to get the 11-to-13 range (Vikings, Broncos, Raiders) would still get New England a really good player, plus the other assets from the deal to move down.
While this clip will likely get attention online (and here) it should be noted that it is a lot easier to hypothetically trade away another team’s opportunity to get a franchise quarterback than for that general manager to do it themself. Trading down to even No. 11 would likely elimimate an opportunity to select any of the top four quarterbacks in the draft.
Trading down makes a lot of sense for a team not in need of a quarterback. It also makes sense if the Patriots don’t love any of their options at No. 3. But it is hard to fathom New England passing up the opportunity to select a potential franchise quarterback in the draft, regardless of what others may suggest.
