Patriots Captain Jabrill Peppers Arrested, Faces Multiple Charges

New England Patriots captain Jabrill Peppers exits court following his arraignment on multiple charges Monday.

A rough stretch for the New England Patriots went from bad to much worse on Monday. Starting safety and team captain Jabrill Peppers was arraigned in Quincy (Mass.) District Court on charges of assault and battery, assault and battery with a deadly weapon, strangulation, and possession of a Class B substance, believed to be cocaine.

The Patriots listed Peppers as questionable for Sunday’s game but downgraded him to out on Saturday. The team was aware of the arrest, according to head coach Jerod Mayo, though it is unclear if that was why he was out on Sunday.

New England released an official statement on the incident:

“We are aware of an incident involving Jabrill Peppers over the weekend in which the police are currently investigating. We will have no further comment at this time.”

Braintree (Mass.) Police Report

The police report states the Braintree Police Department was called to a residence early Saturday morning after receiving a call about an altercation. The female present at the scene accused Peppers of hitting her, choking her at least six times, removing her clothes, and placing her outside. Peppers was also accused of shoving her to the ground and hitting her head against a wall.

According to the woman, she has been dating Peppers “on and off” for about three years.

The police report states a “clear bag containing white powder substances” was confiscated. This led to the Class B possession charge.

The female was treated at the scene for injuries to her face and knees.

Monday’s Court Appearance

Jabrill Peppers pled not guilty to all charges in Quincy (Mass.) District Court on Monday. He posted $2,500 bail and agreed to stay away from the woman involved. Peppers did not speak to reporters while exiting the building. They scheduled the next hearing for Nov. 22, 2024.

Peppers’ attorney, Marc Brofsky, did make a statement as they exited the court.

“What I said in the courtroom, I’ll repeat,” said Brofsky. “We have evidence that completely contradicts the alleged victim’s story, and I expect my client to be fully exonerated.”

Brofsky stated that there was both video evidence and other evidence as well.

What’s Next for Jabrill Peppers?

The NFL has not commented on the matter yet. The New England Patriots’ only comment was that they were aware of the incident and would have no other comment. Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo stated Peppers is allowed at the team facilities until more information is known. Peppers’ availability remains unclear as far as playing is concerned.

Jabrill Peppers has played with the Patriots since 20022 after playing for the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants to start his career. Peppers signed a three-year extension this offseason, which will keep him in New England through 2027. He won the 2023 Vince Wilfork Award as the New England Patriots fan favorite.
