Matthew Judon made his unhappiness over his current contract with the New England Patriots known throughout training camp. He had one year remaining on his contract, which would pay him $6.5 million in 2024. Judon left one practice and failed to show up for another. However, he stated he would play under his deal. According to reports, playing under that deal now means playing for the Atlanta Falcons.

Jordan Schultz reported the Patriots are trading Matthew Judon to the Atlanta Falcons for a third-round pick. It is unclear at this time if it is a 2025 NFL Draft. pick being obtained from Atlanta, or if Judon has discussed a new contract with the Falcons.

Judon got selected to four straight Pro Bowl teams from 2019-to-2022. He began his career with the Baltimore Ravens before signing with New England as a free agent in 2021. Judon was the Patriots’ lone Pro Bowl selection over the past two seasons. He was also arguably the most popular player on the Patriots.

New England’s outside linebacker group consists of Anfernee Jennings, Joshua Uche, and Oshane Ximines following Matthew Judon’s departure. The New England Patriots now have two open roster spots on their 90-man roster.
