One stated goal for the New England Patriots in free agency was to “weaponize” their offense. After striking out on free agent Calvin Ridley, who signed with the Tennessee Titans, the Patriots watched two more weapons change homes. Neither is coming to New England.

The Los Angeles Chargers are trading star wide receiver Keenan Allen to the Chicago Bears for a fourth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Allen caught 108 passes for 1,243 yards and seven touchdowns last season. He made his sixth Pro Bowl in the past seven years. With D.J. Moore already in Chicago, whoever the Bears quarterback is in 2024 will have an impressive receiving duo to work with.

Meanwhile, Marquise Brown, who became the top free agent wide receiver after Ridley signed, agreed to a one-year deal to join the Kansas City Chiefs. Brown had 91 receptions for 1,008 yards in 2021 with the Baltimore Ravens. He was then traded to the Arizona Cardinals, with whom he was a bit of a disappointment. Brown can increase his value working with Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs, then hit the free agent market again in the year.

Football Fun Fact of the Day

Today is former New England Patriots linebacker offensive lineman Ted Karras’ birthday. The Patriots selected Karras in the sixth round (No. 221 overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft. He is currently ninth from that draft class in NFL games played. One of the players above him is fellow New England selection Joe Thuney (drafted No. 78) who is tied for fourth with 129 games played.
