The New England Patriots had a rough 2023 season. But among the team’s bright spots was third-year defensive lineman Christian Barmore. The winner of the Andre Tippett Award as Patriots Defensive Player of the Year was set to become a free agent next offseason. Instead, he has agreed to remain in New England.

Doug Keyed of the Boston Herald was first with the news. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter the four-year contract could pay Barmore up to $92 million.

The Patriots selected Christian Barmore in the second-round (No. 38 overall) in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Over his first two seasons, Barmore was solid, if unspectacular. He appeared in 27 games over that span. By the end of the 2022 season, Barmore had amassed 69 career tackles (35 solo), 5.0 sacks,

Christian Barmore became a force on the New England Patriots defensive line in 2023. He finished the season with 49 pressures. This included 8.0 sacks, 34 hurries, and seven QB hits. He led the Patriots in all three categories. Barmore also registered a team-high five batted balls at the line of scrimmage. He recorded 64 tackles (39 solo), including 13 tackles for a loss. Barmore had five TFL in his first two seasons combined. He finished 2023 with a forced fumble and 40 stops (second on the team).

It was obvious after last season’s performance that Christian Barmore was a player the New England Patriots should attempt to lock up longterm and build around. They have now done just that.
