Patriots Daily: Mathew Sexton Released: Riley Reiff DNP

Just one day after being signed to the New England Patriots practice squad, Mathew Sexton was released by the team. The Patriots were making room to sign PK Matthew Wright. Sexton seemed to be a possibility to return punts for New England as soon as this Sunday, since Demario Douglas remains in concussion protocol. Myles Bryant and Jabrill Peppers are likely the leading candidates to fill that role now.

Meanwhile, offensive tackle Riley Reiff (knee) did not participate in Thursday’s practice. Bill Belichick touted Reiff as a significant signing in the offseason, but it has been a rough year. After struggling in camp, Reiff was moved from right tackle to right guard. He was injured in the final preseason game, and began the year on IR. Reiff retuned in Week 5 against the Saints, but was injured again and returned to the reserve/injured list. This is not good news for Riley Reiff or the Patriots. His 21-day window to either be activated or remain on IR for the rest of the season began on Nov. 14. So, the balance of his season will need to be decided by Monday.
