Patriots Daily: McDermott to 53-Man Roster; Mac Jones to Start?

Published

on

New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones

Following the New England Patriots decision to waive QB Will Grier yesterday, the team made a corresponding move. OT Conor McDermott has been added to the Patriots 53-man roster. McDermott has looked the most solid of the backup tackle options this season (non-Trent Brown and Mike Onwenu options) and could get another start if Brown remains out again this week. At worst, he provides some depth, which has been sorely lacking at the spot.

Also, it appears Mac Jones will get the initial reps at quarterback for the New England Patriots today against the New York Giants. Offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien dropped some hints this week that would leave one to believe this would be the case. He also stressed it would be Bill Belichick’s decision. Based on them splitting reps in practice all week, it is still very possible for both Jones and Bailey Zappe to see action today.

Fun Fact of the Day

Miami Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill has 1,324 receiving yards after 11 games this season. That is the most in the NFL since the AFL/NFL merger of 1970. The overall record through 11 games is held by Elroy Hirsch of the 1951 Los Angeles Rams. The player known as “Crazy Legs” had 1,349, just 25 ahead of Hill.
