Patriots Daily: Another Patriots Player Added to Coaching Staff

The New England Patriots managed to make some news during the Super Bowl, despite not participating on Sunday. During the game, news broke that another former Patriots player was coming back to Foxboro to join New England’s coaching staff. Tiquan Underwood is reportedly being named the team’s new assistant wide receivers coach.

Underwood played college football for Rutgers. In college, he played alongside his future Patriots teammate Devin McCourty. The wide receiver had a five-year NFL career with the Jaguars, Patriots, and Buccaneers. He played two seasons in the Canadian Football League as well.

Following his playing career, Tiquan Underwood began coaching. He has had college stops with Lafayette, Rutgers, and most recently Pitt. He was also an offensive assistant on the Miami Dolphins staff in 2019.

Unfortunatley, Underwood might be best remembered by some Patriots fans for being released the night before Super Bowl 46. New England was set to take on the New York Giants in a rematch of Super Bowl 42. Although the Patriots resigned Underwood two days after the Super Bowl, he would never get to play another game for New England or reach another Super Bowl.

Tiquan Underwood joins Jerod Mayo and Dont’a Hightower as former New England Patriots players now on the coaching staff. Although Underwood is being hired as assistant wide receivers coach, they have yet to hire a wide receivers coach. Stay tuned!

Football Fun Fact of the Day

With Kansas City winning Super Bowl 58, Chiefs linebackers coach Brendan Daly now has six Super Bowl rings. He won three with New England before joining the Kansas City staff. This moves Daly into a three-way tie for most championships among coaches. The coaching leaderboard:
