Patriots Football Now correctly predicted 50 of the 53 players to make the New England Patriots’ initial 53-man roster. Perhaps the biggest surprise among the cuts was cornerback Shaun Wade. Wade found a new NFL home on Monday, signing with the Los Angeles Chargers practice squad.

Wade played collegiately for Ohio State. The Baltimore Ravens selected the cornerback in the fifth round (No. 160 overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft. New England traded for him before the start of Wade’s rookie season. Wade appeared in 20 games in three years with the Patriots, including 14 in 2023. He dealt with some injury issues in training camp but played in two preseason games and played well.

The two other Patriots’ cuts not foreseen by PFN, Kevin Harris and Joe Giles-Harris, both returned to New England’s practice squad. Wade now gets an opportunity for a fresh start on the West Coast. Patriots fans might see him again this season. The Chargers visit Foxboro in Week 17.

As noted here earlier in the week, the writing on the wall for Wade’s departure seemed secure once the practice squad running back Terrell Jennings switched uniform numbers to take No. 26, previously worn by Shaun Wade.

Other Players Who Patriots Last Week

Twelve of the Patriots who aren’t on the team’s 53-man roster are now members of New England’s practice squad. This includes four players (Isaiah Bolden, Trysten Hill, Michael Jordan, and Jalen Reagor) who made the Patriots’ initial roster but were subsequently cut to make room for waiver pickups.

Wide receiver David Wallis made a positive impression during preseason, primarily as a return specialist. Although he has yet to sign with anyone, he was recently among a group of wide receivers to work out for the New Orleans Saints. That group also included former Patriot Phillip Dorsett.

Training camp players who remain out of work include Joshua Bledsoe, Chad Ryland, Atonio Mafi, Josiah Bronson, Kellen Diesch, Charles Turner III, and Mike Victor.

Bailey Zappe (Chiefs), Sam Robers (Bears), and William Bradley-King (Dolphins) previously signed with the practice squads of other teams. Shaun Wade (Chargers) now makes the fourth New England Patriots player from camp to find a new home since the NFL’s Cutdown Day.
