Patriots Football Daily: Bourne Believes in Bailey Zappe

The New England Patriots locked up wide Kendrick Bourne before NFL free agency got underway. The wide receiver recently joined Andrew Callahan on the Pats Interference podcast. Bourne discussed several topics, including his decision to return to New England, his desire to be a team captain, and the Patriots quarterback situation. Callahan asked Bourne about Jacoby Brissett, whom the Patriots acquired in free agency.

“What do you make about catching passes from him (Jacoby Brissett) and/or a rookie?” asked Callahan.

“So, I’m just excited,” began Bourne. “And also, I don’t want people to forget about (Bailey) Zappe. Zappe is a special guy to me. I believe in him. I think he’s a sleeper that people are really looking over. But I’m excited.”

Bailey Zappe has been seen in online clips working out with Bourne and Patriots receivers DeMario Douglas and Tyquan Thornton.

After exploding on the scene as a rookie in 2022, Zappe struggled in 2023. The apparent dysfunction of the situation in Foxboro didn’t do him any favors, though Zappe didn’t help his cause either.

The New England Patriots quarterback room currently consists of Jacoby Brissett, Bailey Zappe, and Nathan Rourke. New England is expected to select a QB with the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. There are also still two free agent quarterbacks available who have experience playing for offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt: P.J. Walker and Jeff Driskel.

QB1 for Week 1 is still over five months away from needing to be announced. But Kendrick Bourne doesn’t want people to forget that Bailey Zappe is still part of the conversation.
