Patriots Football Daily: Huge Red Flag for Caleb Williams

Vegas odds believe the Chicago Bears will select Caleb Williams first overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. While that idea is more of a given to others than it is here, a huge red flag went up this past week for the USC quarterback. That is especially true if the potential franchise drafting Williams is the New England Patriots.

The issue did not stem from Williams not participating at the NFL Scouting Combine. It had to do with the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner’s response to a question about his football GOAT.

“Football, winning, and things like that; mentality, Tom Brady,” Williams responded. He then added, “My football GOAT is Aaron Rodgers.”

If Caleb Williams doesn’t want to play for the Patriots he should just say so. But if Tom Brady (football, winning, mentality) is not his football GOAT maybe it’s time for all of the NFL teams to reevaluate the former Trojans QB. Caleb Williams is too young to remember Tom Brady’s first three Super Bowls or his record-breaking undefeated 16-0 season in 2007. Williams was nine when Aaron Rodgers won his only Super Bowl. He was 13 when Tom Brady won his fourth, with three more still to come. If 7-1 isn’t enough to convince Caleb Williams that Tom Brady is the GOAT, it’s unclear what his goals as an NFL quarterback are.

Okay, maybe that’s a harsh assessment of a throw-away comment. But don’t look for the Kraft family to try and trade up to acquire Caleb Williams on Draft Day.

Football Fun Fact of the Day

Today NFL QB Kyle Allen turns 28. Before 2022, Allen had been the most recent quarterback to win his first two NFL starts and post a QB Rating of 100+ in each game. Allen’s two starts were spread over two seasons (2018-2019) with the Carolina Panthers. In 2022, New England Patriots QB Bailey Zappe became the first rookie to do so in the Super Bowl Era.
