Patritos Football Daily: James Ferentz Retires

New England Patriots offensive lineman James Ferentz is calling it a career. He retires as a veteran of ten NFL seasons, though two were spent exclusively as a practice squad member.
James Ferentz played college football at Iowa for his father Kirk Ferentz, a former Patriots assistant coach. He was not selected in the 2014 NFL Draft. Ferentz signed with the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent, spending his rookie year on their practice squad. When he was waived in training camp by Houston the following year, Ferentz signed with the Denver Broncos. Denver won the Super Bowl in 2015, Ferentz’s first year with the team. He appeared in 14 games and one playoff game during their championship run. He spent one more season with the Broncos before coming to New England.
Ferentz spent the 2017 season on the Patriots practice squad. The following year he appeared in two games and won his second Super Bowl ring. Ferentz would go on to play 41 games in New England, including one in 2023. Reports indicate Ferentz was a part-time offensive line coach for the Patriots this past season, following the departure of Adrian Klemm.
James Ferentz might be following in the footsteps of his father by joining the coaching ranks now that his playing days are done, Perhaps he will return to his alma mater, where his father is still the head coach.
