New England Patriots Place Jaquelin Roy on Injured Reserve
Jaquelin Roy signed with the New England Patriots practice squad on Sept. 10. The defensive lineman worked his way up to the 53-man roster on Oct. 5. After playing six games for the Patriots, Roy’s 2024 campaign has ended. The Patriots placed him on injured reserve on Friday. Players must remain on injured reserve for at least four weeks, and there are only four weeks remaining in New England’s season.
Roy spent his rookie season with the Minnesota Vikings after being selected in the fifth round (No. 141 overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft. He appeared in 12 games, though played only 96 defensive snaps. Roy recorded eight tackles, one quarterback hit, and one tackle for a loss. Many expected him to see a larger role for the Vikings in his second season. However, Minnesota released him as part of their final roster cuts at the end of training camp. They did not re-sign him to their practice squad.

New England brought in Jaquelin Roy. He was reunited with Kayshon Boutte, his teammate at LSU. Boutte was the only high school prospect from Louisiana ranked higher than Roy in 2020.
Jaquelin Roy played in six consecutive games beginning in Week 4. He registered 17 tackles (12 solo), 3 TFL, and 2.0 sacks. However, he injured his neck in Week 10 against the Chicago Bears and has not played since.
After placing Jaquelin Roy on injured reserve, the New England Patriots have an open spot on their 53-man roster. This could open the door for Caedan Wallace to be activated from IR, though no announcement has been made yet.
