The NFL Draft has finally arrived. Happy Draft Day to all who celebrate, which likely includes anyone reading this. Round 1 of the 2024 NFL Draft is set to start at 8 PM ET tonight, with the Chicago Bears expected to take USC QB Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall selection. If no trades are made at the top, the Washington Commanders will pick second. That places the New England Patriots on the clock around 8:30 PM ET.

While there have been rumors about trading down for a “Godfather offer” from a team like the Minnesota Vikings, the most likely scenario remains for the New England Patriots to remain at No. 3 and draft the player they believe will be their future franchise quarterback.

Washington largely controls those options. Assuming Williams goes to the Bears, the Commanders get the next choice at quarterback. If they keep the pick, Jayden Daniels appears to be the frontrunner to be their selection. But it is also possible Washington trades to a team like Minnesota, who is believed to covet Drake Maye. They could also take Maye themselves.

The New England Patriots, if they remain at No. 3 will choose among two of three quarterbacks: LSU’s Jayden Daniels, North Carolina’s Drake Maye, and Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy. One will be gone, with New England left to decide between the other two. The belief here remains that Drake Maye will be the choice, though he might be the least NFL-ready of the three options. Of course, the Patriots are unlikely to be playing for a Lombardi Trophy this coming season regardless.

Or maybe Eliot Wolf will shock the world and the New England Patriots will opt for WR Marvin Harrison Jr. or OT Joe Alt. Stay tuned.

Football Fun Fact of the Day

Robert Kraft bought the New England Patriots on Jan. 21, 1994. That was 11,502 days ago. Tonight they are scheduled to have their highest draft selection during that time.

Post of the Day

Today’s post is from Honest Larry with the last time the New England Patriots selected in the Top 3 of an NFL Draft, taking Drew Bledsoe with the No. 1 overall pick of the 1993 draft:
