New England Patriots Inactive Report for Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles

The New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins have listed their inactive players for Week 2.

For New England:

  • WR Kayshon Boutte
  • OT Trent Brown
  • LB Anfernee Jennings
  • DB Jonathan Jones
  • OL Sidy Sow
  • DL Sam Roberts
  • DB Ameer Speed

Good news for New England is that both starting Cole Strange and Mike Onwenu are not listed. However, the enthusiasm for their returns is offset slightly by Trent Brown and Jonathan Jones both being out.

Brown being out is not a huge surprise, even if it is a huge loss. He was missing from practice all week, like Sow, under concussion protocol.

Jonathan Jones missing means the Patriots will be without their primary line of defense against Tyreek Hill. The Patriots defensive backs, already facing a major test, will certainly have their hands full making up for Jones’ absence.

The rest of the inactive players appear to be a matter of depth chart locations. Boutte was taken off the injury report yesterday, so unclear if he is having lingering issues, or the Patriots are simply preferring to dress newcomer Jalen Reagor.

Miami’s inactives are:

  • OT Terron Armstead
  • DB Elijah Campbell
  • TE Julian Hill
  • CB Kelvin Joseph
  • LB Jaelan Phillips
  • WR Cedric Wilson Jr.

Key names on this list for Miami are Armstead and Phillips.

Armstead is the starting left tackle for Miami when available. He also missed the Dolphins Week 1 win over the Chargers. The Pro Bowler practiced all week though, leading to speculation he’d be ready to play tonight.

Phillips was injured during practice on Friday. The third-year edge had 15.5 sacks in his first two NFL seasons and picked up another half sack in Week 1. His absence would be a blow to the Dolphins defense.
