Tom Brady sidelined from latest Chiefs Super Bowl practice

Former New England Patriots QB Tom Brady made his NFL broadcasting debut on Sunday.

Tom Brady is no stranger to meticulous preparation, but ahead of his first Super Bowl as a broadcaster for Fox, he’s missing out on a key aspect of game-week coverage. Unlike the rest of Fox’s on-air crew, Brady was absent from the network’s visit to Chiefs practice on Wednesday.

According to the Pro Football Writers Association’s pool report, per Pro Football Talk, the Fox team—including Brady’s broadcast partner, Kevin Burkhardt—was in attendance. But Brady, the man expected to be the face of Fox’s future broadcasts, and color commentator for Super Bowl 59, was nowhere to be seen.

The reason? Brady’s unique situation as both a Fox analyst and a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders. That dual role has led to special restrictions throughout the season, barring him from production meetings and limiting his access to team insights that could theoretically benefit his ownership interests in Las Vegas. While some of those restrictions have been eased for Super Bowl week, Chiefs owner Clark Hunt made it clear that Brady would not be granted access to their practice.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell brushed off concerns about a conflict of interest, but the reality remains: broadcasters attend practices to gather information, identify trends, and enhance their game-day coverage. That’s an advantage every other Fox analyst has right now—except Brady. His absence means he’s missing crucial details that could elevate his commentary, and in turn, viewers won’t be getting the same level of insight when they watch the game on Sunday night. And for Brady, who is still young in his commentary career, he needs every advantage he can get.

For Patriots fans, it’s a strange sight. The quarterback who brought six Super Bowls to New England  would never have let an information gap hinder his preparation. Whether it was film study, practice reps, or game-planning, Brady the player always found a way to gain every possible edge. Now, as Brady the broadcaster, he’s being forced to watch from the sidelines in a way he never did during his legendary career.
