Patriots urged to sign All-Pro, ‘top offensive tackle on the market’ in NFL free agency

The New England Patriots have positioned themselves well in the offseason of 2025. Teams don’t win championships in March, but the lack of progress following a four-win season that saw their head coach fired wouldn’t work well, either. Leading the NFL in salary cap space, though, and armed with the No. 4 overall pick, New England has the opportunity, under new head coach Mike Vrabel, to make big improvements in a hurry.
The first of which, according to CBS Sports’ Jordan Dajani, is to make a move to land Ravens offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley. The former All-Pro got through his first full season of action in his career in 2024, helping anchor one of the best offenses in the NFL. When healthy, Stanley has been an elite protector and dominant run-blocker, helping pave the way for one of the league’s best offenses since 2019.
“The Patriots are projected to have the most cap space in the NFL this offseason, so let’s throw that money around,” Dajani wrote. “How about going after the top offensive tackle on the open market in Ronnie Stanley of the Ravens? After battling injuries for the past few years, Stanley finally played a full season in 2024 and made the Pro Bowl. The Patriots need a complete overhaul on the offensive line to develop Drake Maye.”
Maye’s development has been impressive, and rebuilding the offensive line has to be a priority for the Patriots. Throw a dart at the board and you probably hit a position of need, but getting a veteran bookend protector on the offensive line would give New England the opportunity to look at a playmaker with the fourth pick — someone like Travis Hunter, perhaps.
Options will not be an issue for the Patriots this offseason, and with their franchise quarterback set and seemingly poised to move the team back into prominence, this free agency period will be important for the next two or three years — the first under Vrabel.
