The New England Patriots will not practice on Thanksgiving. That news made Wednesday’s practice the last look at the team’s availability before Friday, when game status for Sunday’s game will be released. The good news for New England was that everybody participated in Friday’s practice. Unfortunately, 13 of those players participated in a limited capacity.

DT Jaquelin Roy (neck) and DE Deatrich Wise Jr. (foot) missed New England’s Week 12 game against the Miami Dolphins. Roy did not participate in practice last week. Wise joined on Friday in a limited capacity. Having both participate on Wednesday is positive news for New England.

The other positive news was DT Davon Godchaux (back), and CB Christian Gonzalez (hip) were listed as full participants despite dealing with injuries.

Three Special Circumstances

Among the 11 other limited participants on Wednesday were three Patriots with special circumstances. The reasons behind their limited participation vary widely.

Christian Barmore returned from the PUP (physically unable to perform) list for Week 11. He has played the past games and recorded his first sack of the season against the Dolphins in Week 12. Barmore continues to recover from his blood clot diagnosis and treatment. He has yet to be a full participant throughout any week, so it is likely this is all part of a plan to ease him back into the fold.

Jabrill Peppers was reinstated by the NFL on Monday. Before being placed on the Commissioner’s Exempt List, Peppers was dealing with a knee injury. New England listed the safety as a limited participant on Wednesday with a knee injury. It is unclear if he will play this Sunday against Indianapolis. Injury, rust, and disciplinary issues could all factor into the decision.

Cole Strange remains on the Patriots’ PUP list. New England must add Strange to the 53-man roster before he can play in a game. He began practicing with New England last week for the first time in 2024. That opened a 21-day window for New England to activate him or keep him inactive for the remainder of the season.

Other Players Limited at Patriots Practice

The Patriots listed eight others as questionable. WR DeMario Douglas (ankle) and OT Vederian Lowe (shoulder) represented the offense on the injury report. Douglas’ ankle injury is new news this week. Lowe continues dealing with a shoulder injury but has played through it the past few weeks.

New England’s defense had five limited participants in addition to the four noted above. DE Keion White (foot), DT Daniel Ekuale (elbow), LB Christian Elliss (knee), LB Anfernee Jennings (knee), LB Sione Takitaki (knee), and S Kyle Dugger (ankle) were all limited.

The Patriots scheduled a day off on Thursday for Thanksgiving. As a result, there may have been extra precautions taken with Wednesday’s participation. The New England Patriots (3-8) host the Indianapolis Colts (5-7) on Sunday.
