New England Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers speaks to the media

Jabrill Peppers got arrested early Saturday morning. The news broke publicly Monday when the New England Patriots safety was arraigned in court. The NFL reacted to the news on Wednesday, placing Peppers on the commissioner’s exempt list.

Being on the commissioner’s exempt list means Jabrill Peppers cannot practice or play with the Patriots. He cannot attend games. Peppers can participate in team meetings and workouts, and receive treatment at the team facilities. No timetable exists for removal from the commissioner’s exempt list. It is a temporary designation while the situation is investigated further.

Peppers faces charges of strangulation, assault and battery, assault and battery with a deadly weapon, and possession of a Class B substance believed to be cocaine. He pled not guilty to all charges on Monday, released on $2,500 bail, and ordered to stay away from the female who made the accusations of physical violence.

Jabrill Peppers’ lawyer Marc Brofsky stated Monday, “We have evidence that completely contradicts the alleged victim’s story, and I expect my client to be fully exonerated.”

The Patriots signed Peppers as a free agent in 2022. New England gave him a three-year extension this past offseason, keeping him with the team through 2028.

Jabrill Peppers serves as a team captain. He received the 2023 Vince Wilfork Award as the New England Patriots Fan Favorite.
