Patriots Daily: Oshane Ximines to IR; Week 3 Begins Tonight
The New England Patriots placed Oshane Ximines on injured reserve yesterday. Ximines suffered a knee injury in Sunday’s 23-20 overtime loss to the Seattle Seahawks and did not return. He was one of four Patriots ruled out for tonight’s game against the New York Jets, though that is no longer relevant as Ximines is no longer eligible to play.
An IR designation for Ximines means he will miss at least the next four games for New England. The earliest he can return to action is Week 7 (Oct. 20) against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The loss of the edge defender is a big blow to the Patriots defense. New England traded Matthew Judon to Atlanta before the start of the season. Oshane Ximines was expected to take up some of that slack after an impressive training camp. This increased the workload for Anfernee Jennings and Joshua Uche. Inside linebacker Jahlani Tavai can move to the outside. However, it might be difficult due to the loss of Ja’Whaun Bentley.

In addition to Ximines and Bentley, OT Vederian Lowe (knee) and OG Sidy Sow (ankle) were ruled out for Week 3 as well. Four players remain questionable for the game: C David Andrews (hip), OL Mike Onwenu (wrist), DE Deatrich Wise Jr. (shoulder), and S Jabrill Peppers (shoulder). Their statuses will be updated later today before game time.
