Patriots Daily: No Time to Sulk for Pats; Upsets Rule NFL Week 2

New England head coach Jerod Mayo after the teams Week 2 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

The New England Patriots fell to 1-1 yesterday with a tough 23-20 overtime loss at home to the Seattle Seahawks. The Patriots surprised some by splitting their first two games and being competitive both weeks. However, they also had an excellent chance to improve to 2-0 and dropped a game in OT that appeared very winnable. So, while there is plenty to feel good about in the big picture in the season’s early going, Sunday’s loss is a tough pill to swallow.

But the Patriots have no time to dwell on yesterday’s disappointment. Their Week 3 matchup takes place only four games after Sunday’s loss. New England plays on Thursday Night Football against the New York Jets.

Comments on the Short Week Ahead

“It’s a Wednesday in our world,” head coach Jerod Mayo said in his postgame press conference. “We have to be ready to change the page, move on, and get ready to win this next football game.”

Rhamondre Stevenson was asked about the most important thing as the team prepares to play on Thursday.

“Let this one go,” responded Stevenson. “We’re onto the Jets now. Short week. Make sure you’re body’s feeling good, make sure of your playbook, and be ready to go on Thursday.”

Captain David Andrews was also asked about playing on Thursday nights.

“They’re tough,” Andrews said of Thursday night games. “It’s a quick turnaround. In our world today is Wednesday.”

“You’ve really got to rely on your preparations,” Andrews added. “You’ve got to take the most out of the walk-throughs. And I think the team that is ready to go with the most energy, things like that, on a Thursday night are huge.”

“This one’s hard,” said Hunter Henry. “We’re going to have to learn a lot from it in a fast, short week. So we’re gonna have to be ready to go again on Thursday.”

Defensive captain Deatrich Wise Jr. answered a question about advice for rookies on a shortened week so early in their careers.

“Today’s Wednesday in our book. They have to have short-term memory,” said Wise. “We will watch the film coming in tomorrow and then it’s a quick turnaround. Make sure you get the body right. This will be a big mental week and a recovery week.”

The dig at the Indianapolis Colts solidified this honor:
