New England Patriots starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett appeared to get injured in Sunday night’s preseason finale against the Washington Commanders. Brissett seemed shaken up on New England’s opening drive of the game. He was replaced by rookie Drake Maye for the second series.

The Patriots blocking on the play was poor. It allowed KJ Henry to rush unimpeded and take down Brissett. The veteran quarterback appeared shaken up after the play.

Brissett threw an incompletion on third down, though it was a nice pass that K.J. Osborn failed to haul in while trying to make a one-handed catch. Drake Maye came out for the second series and led the Patriots down the field for a touchdown and a 7-0 lead.

The New England Patriots starting quarterback for Week 1 against the Cincinnati Bengals has yet to be announced. Patriots’ head coach Jerod Mayo stated this week it was still an open competition. With that in mind, it is difficult to imagine New England wasn’t planning to see more of Brissett tonight if there truly was an open competition to be the team’s starter. Patriots Football Now will update Brissett’s health status as more information becomes available.
