Patriots Daily: New England Hosting Offensive Linemen Today
Jerod Mayo stated this morning that the New England Patriots will host free agent offensive linemen in Foxboro today. The head coach was asked about the depth at the offensive line position. The team lost one member from the unit this past week when Jake Andrews was placed on season-ending IR and was replaced by long snapper Tucker Addington.
The players’ identities brought in today are unknown when this was published (it will be reported on as information becomes available). Mayo stated it was unrelated to anything that happened in last night’s game. He said the team is always looking to bring in talent and improve the roster.
There were multiple injuries along the offensive front leading up to the preseason opener but everyone appeared in the game. New England’s first unit consisted of:
LT – Vederian Lowe
LG – Sidy Sow
C – David Andrews
RG – Mike Onwenu
RT – Chuks Okorafor
There was a lot of movement along the front and everyone on the offensive line saw time. Layden Robinson, Caedan Wallace, Michael Jordan, Calvin Anderson, Atonio Mafi, Nick Leverett, Kellen Diesch, Liam Fornadel, Charles Turner, and Zuri Henry saw varying amounts of time as well. Vederian Lowe was the only starter that played beyond the first two offensive series.
Diesch and Fornadel are the two most additions of the unit. So fans holding out hope for a “big name” signing could find themselves disappointed. Offensive tackle remains the team’s most glaring hole on the front. Will New England find somebody today they believe can bolster the group? Stay tuned.
