After 24 hours of reports and rumors, the New England Patriots are apparently no longer interested in pulling the trigger on a trade for Brandon Aiyuk. Reports Monday indicated that the San Francisco 49ers agreed to the framework of deals for Aiyuk with both the Patriots and Cleveland Browns. Now New England is no longer in the running according to ESPN.

Adam Schefter reports that according to sources

“After inquiring about Brandon Aiyuk’s availability, the Patriots have decided not to explore any further trade possibilities with the 49ers regarding their standout wide receiver. Patriots are excited about their young receivers and want to focus on them.”

Schefter’s report makes it sound as though the Patriots “inquiring” about Aiyuk never got serious. This is in contrast to multple reports elsewhere that had specific players and money discussed. The potential trade led to Patriots Football Now discussing the possible effect the rumors would have on Patriots players like Kendrick Bourne.

The New England Patriots’ “young receivers” are led by rookies Ja’Lynn Polk and Javon Baker. The duo joins DeMario Douglas, K.J. Osborn, Tyquan Thornton, and Kendrick Bourne, among others. It is unknown where Brandon Aiyuk will now land, though that destination is not going to be Foxboro.
