Patriots Daily: No Pats in NFL Top 100; Tyreek Hill Voted No. 1

The NFL Top 100 countdown has become an annual tradition. The NFL Network counts down the league’s top players each year, as voted on by their peers. The 2024 edition concluded on Friday, with a new top player in the rankings. For the first time since the NFL 100 was introduced in 2011, the New England Patriots received no representation on the list.
Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins became the first wide receiver to claim the top spot in the 14 years of the NFL Top 100. Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson, the 2023 NFL MVP, ranked No. 2. Last season’s NFL Offensive Player of the Year, RB Christian McCaffrey of the San Francisco 49ers, was No. 3. Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs finished No. 4. Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns, last season’s NFL Defensive Player of the Year, rounded out the top five.
Matthew Judon ranked No. 33 on the 2023 NFL Top 100 but was not ranked this year. Safeties Kyle Dugger and Jabrill Dugger had arguments for inclusion, but neither was among the eight safeties listed. There were also eight defensive tackles, but New England’s Christian Barmore was nowhere to be found.
Being on a losing team does not help one wind up on such lists. However, the Carolina Panthers (Brian Burns) and Washington Commanders (Montez Sweat, Jonathan Allen, Terry McLaurin) finished worse than New England in 2023 but had players from last season’s squads represented.
Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud went from unranked in 2023 to No. 20 in 2024. So there is hope for the New England Patriots players to be well-represented again on next year’s list. The Patriots have had the No. 1 ranked player in 2011, 2017, and 2018. It was Tom Brady all three times.

Patriots Fun Fact of the Day
Hall of Fame coach is the one who determined that 40 yards was a more meaningful way to time football players. This was based on the distance it would take players to run to cover a punt. Since the NFL Scouting Combine began officially tracking 40-yard dash times, the fastest by a New England Patriots draft pick belongs to Tyquan Thornton. (note: Thornton’s time was officially timed at 4.28).
You are watching what could be the new 40-yard dash record at the combine (4.21u).
Tyquan Thornton, take a bow. @BUFootball
