The sports media is spinning narratives about every NFL team before camp opens. Every year, a team or teams defies expectations. Look at the 2023 Houston Texans and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Did you think either of those teams would make the playoffs?

Our job as bettors is to see through the stories, look at the data, and prepare for the upcoming betting season.

We’ve discussed which NFL teams to fade in 2024. Let’s look at the 2024 NFL teams to buy against the spread this season.

Hey, Patriots fans, DraftKings Sportsbook offers new players an exciting promotion. Create a new account today and receive $150 in bonus bets after placing an initial $5 wager.

Tennessee Titans

Can Will Levis develop into an above-average NFL QB in year two?

I saw his game. I’m a believer.

In Levis’s eight 2023 starts, he passed for 1,808 yards, an average of 226 per game. Trevor Lawrence averaged 236 in 2023. Lawrence is now the highest-paid QB in the league.

Tennessee replaced HC Mike Vrabel with Brian Callahan, who most recently served as the Cincinnati Bengals OC. Franchise staple RB Derrick Henry signed with the Baltimore Ravens. In his place, the Titans added veteran RB Tony Pollard.

Oh yeah, they also added veteran wide receivers Tyler Boyd and Calvin Ridley.

DraftKings Sportsbook has the Titans’ win total posted at 6.5 with +1000 odds to win the AFC South. Nobody expects much from the Titans this year, but don’t sleep on this team. Take them as underdogs against the spread early in the season.

Washington Commanders

The Washington Commanders are starting over.

And unlike Eric Carmen (RIP), the franchise and fans aren’t looking to the past. Washington has a new owner, coach, and a franchise QB.

Heisman-winner Jayden Daniels wasn’t the most polished QB in the 2024 draft, but Daniels was arguably the most talented.

In his 2023 Heisman-winning campaign, Daniels threw for 3,812 yards, 40 TDs, and only four interceptions. What sets Daniels apart are his legs. Daniels added another 1,134 rushing yards and ten rushing TDs.

I’m not predicting that Washington is a contender in Daniels’ rookie year. There are still too many question marks, especially with a suspect offensive line.

I expect the woes of Washington’s recent past to play a part in their spreads. The Commanders will keep games close this season, making them one of the best 2024 NFL teams to buy.

Las Vegas Raiders

Five of the Raiders’ nine 2023 losses were by a touchdown or less.

The Raiders defense, led by DE Maxx Crosby, allowed an average of 19.5 points per game in 2023, good for seventh in the league.

Las Vegas improved the unit in the offseason, signing DT Christian Wilkins to a four-year deal worth $110 million. Wilkins sacked the opposing QB nine times in 2023.

The Raiders also improved their offense.

They signed QB Gardner Minshew III, who helped the Indianapolis Colts reach the 2023 playoffs. The Raiders and new coach Antonio Pierce hope the veteran Minshew will get the ball in the hands of star WR Davonte Adams.

Minshew isn’t a franchise QB, but he can improve an offense that averaged only 19.5 points per game in 2023.

Las Vegas went 10-6-1 ATS in 2023. Their defense will keep them in most games, and an improved offense makes them a dangerous underdog team. I love them against the spread and on the moneyline in short-spread spots this year.Â
