Former New England Patriots Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman chat on Edelman's Names With Games podcast.

Former New England Patriots star Julian Edelman has settled nicely into retirement from the NFL. Edelman remained in the public spotlight after retiring following the 2020 NFL season. Among his many endeavors is hosting his podcast, Games With Names. Edelman invites guests to discuss a specific sporting event that has meaning to them.

Rob Gronkowski recently joined the podcast to discuss the 2011 Divisional Round game between the Patriots and Broncos. Although the game is always what the podcast is built around, the side conversations are great. Gronkowski became the first three-time guest of the show. The friends and former teammates covered multiple topics, including a new opinion about an old acquaintance.

“I think Coach Belichick may be my new favorite person, ever since the roast,” said Gronkowski, referencing The Greatest Roast of All Time: Tom Brady. “Every since he also got roasted out of a head coaching job as well.”

There is no question that since Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots “parted ways” the former coach has seemed more relaxed in his public appearances. Although some stated over the years that Belichick was funny or engaging behind the scenes, Gronkowski’s comments make it clear that aspect of Belichick’s personality was not often seen by some. The legendary tight

“His personality is great, outside of football,” Gronkowski added of Belichick. “He turned into my new favorite person at the roast.”

Gronkowski made a comment, though not meant literally, which could serve Belichick well if he lands another head coaching job in the future.

“If he just showed that personality at all while he was a head coach, I think we’d still be playing for the New England Patriots and winning Super Bowls.”

New England Patriots

Patriots Football Now – In the 2010’s the link between the New England Patriots and the Rutgers football program was strong. There were 13 former Scarlet Knights who played for the Patriots. Devin McCourty led the way, joined by fellow defensive backs Duron Harmon, Logan Ryan, and Jason McCourty, among others. One such player discussed a possible return to Foxboro to finish his career. Could “The Closer” return to New England?

Patriots Football Now – New England gave contract extensions to three veterans this offseason: Christian Barmore, David Andrews, and Rhamondre Stevenson. There are still five solid candidates to receive an extension before the 2024 season gets underway. I asked one of these players about heading into the final year of his deal and the possibility of signing an extension with the Patriots. Fortunately, I received a response, as Davon Godchaux comments on his contract situation with the Patriots.

Boston Bruins

Boston Hockey Now – The Boston Bruins offseason began with trading away goaltender Linus Ullmark. Last night the 2024 NHL Draft got underway. Boston acquired a first-round pick from Ottawa in the Ullmark deal. On Friday night Boston fans saw the Bruins draft a 6-foot-7 center bound for Boston College at No. 25.
