New England Patriots positional coaching jobs are now nearly all filled. Reports on Tuesday indicate that another member of the offensive staff has joined the fold. New England is expected to hire Taylor Embree for the position.

Embree has been an NFL assistant coach for seven seasons. Most recently, he was the running backs coach for the New York Jets for three seasons (2021-to-2023). His stops before New York included stints with the Kansas City Chiefs (defensive assistant, 2016) and San Francisco 49ers (offensive quality control coach, 2017-2018). He worked on college staffs of UNLV, UCLA, and Colorado as well.

Taylor Embree is part of a family legacy in football. His grandfather John Embree was a wide receiver with the Denver Broncos (1969-1970). His father Jon Embree played for the Los Angeles Rams (1987-1988) and is a longtime football coach himself. Jon Embree is currently the tight ends coach for the Miami Dolphins. Taylor Embree’s younger brother, Connor Embree, is the wide receivers coach for the Kansas City Chiefs. The youngest Embree just collected his third Super Bowl title on Sunday.

With the Patriots still searching for both wide receivers and tight ends coaches, perhaps an Embree family reunion in Foxboro could be arranged?

When Embree was with San Francisco he was part of a 49ers staff led by head coach Kyle Shanahan. The offensive coaches also included Mike McDaniel (Dolphins head coach), Mike Lafleur (Rams offensive coordinator), Adam Stenavich (Packers offensive coordinator), T.C. McCartney (new Patriots QB coach), and his father Jon Embree.

Taylor Embree followed San Francisco defensive coordinator Robert Saleh to New York when Saleh was named Jets head coach. In Embree’s four years with the Jets, their rushing game ranked 26 in the NFL in yards, 27 in yards after contact, and 31 in touchdowns.
