Patriots Daily: Down to Fourth in 2024 Draft; NFL Christmas Games

The New England Patriots dramatic win over Denver on Sunday night boosted team morale. It showed doubters that the team is willing to fight for every win, regardless of record or postseason hopes. What it also did was bump New England backwards a bit in the 2024 NFL Draft order.

Instead of staying at No. 2, where they would have remained with a loss, the Patriots are now at No. 4. Obviously this is all still subject to change. New England still has two games remaining. They could finish anywhere from 4-13 to 6-11. Other teams could also pick up additional wins before the season is through. And the strength of schedule tiebreaker for draft position is constantly changing. But, for now, the Patriots would be selecting fourth.

This could put the New England Patriots out of the running, barring a trade, for Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, or Marvin Harrison, Jr. However, there is still four months until the 2024 NFL Draft, not to mention two weeks remaining in the 2023 season, so all of that can be worried about at a later date. Perhaps the Patriots wind up with one of the three quarterbacks (Jayden Daniels, Michael Penix, Jr., Bo Nix) that were Heisman Trophy finalists this season instead.

NFL Christmas Schedule

There are three games today (all times EST):

1:00 Las Vegas Raiders (6-8) at Kansas City Chiefs (9-5)

4:30 New York Giants (5-9) at Philadelphia Eagles (10-4)

8:15 Baltimore Ravens (11-3) at San Francisco 49ers (11-3)

The winner of the Ravens-49ers game will be the top team in next week’s NFL Power Rankings.

Fun Fact of the Day

The first ever NFL game played on Christmas came during the 1971 playoffs. It was a game between the visiting Dallas Cowboys and the Minnesota Vikings. Dallas prevailed 20-12 and would go on to win the Super Bowl. Cowboys RB Duane Clark scored the NFL’s first Christmas touchdown in the game.
