There have been two transactions involving the New England Patriots practice squad over the past 24 hours. The Patriots released PK Matthew Wright. Also, LB/ST Calvin Munson has been signed off the Patriots practice squad to the Miami Dolphins 53-man roster. Both transactions were first reported by ESPN’s Mike Reiss.

Matthew Wright signed with the Patriots practice squad last week. New England kicker Chad Ryland missed costly field goals in consecutive games prior to Wright’s addition. It is unclear if Wright simply failed to impress, or if Ryland has regained the confidence of the coaching staff.

Meanwhile, Calvin Munson is leaving New England’s practice squad to join Miami’s 53-man roster. The Patriots elevated Munson from the practice squad for three games already this season, so he would not have been able to play in any more games without being added to the 53-man roster in New England. The move sends Munson from the bottom to the top of the AFC East.

These moves leave New England with two open spots on the practice squad. Recently released Ty Montgomery would seem a logical candidate for one of them. Stay tuned.

Fun Fact of the Day

The New England Patriots have never selected No. 3 in an NFL Draft. However, they did have the third pick in 1990. New England traded with the Seattle Seahawks. Seattle drafted future Hall of Fame DL Cortez Kennedy at three. New England got LB Chris Singleton eighth, then DL (and birthday boy) Ray Agnew at No. 10.
