Patriots Daily: Running Back Options; Jags Lose Lawrence on MNF

With Rhamondre Stevenson exiting Sunday’s game against the Chargers with an ankle injury, the New England Patriots may need to replace him moving forward. Early reports said x-rays taken after the game were negative, but Stevenson will have an MRI this week to determine the extent of the injury. Stevenson missing next week’s game, at the least, seems to be highly probable.
Ezekiel Elliott will take over as the featured back if Stevenson misses any time. On Sunday, he was the only running back active for the game, other than Stevenson. Ty Montgomery has the ability to fill in at running back if needed. Montgomery is listed as a wide receiver on the Patriots roster, and plays special teams almost exclusively.
JaMycal Hasty is the other running back on the Patriots 53-man roster, though he has yet to be active for a game. New England claimed Hasty off waivers via Jacksonville on Nov. 14. Running back Kevin Harris is an option from the practice squad. The 2022 sixth round pick appeared in five games for New England as a rookie, but has yet to be elevated to the active roster in 2023.
Meanwhile, Hasty’s former Jaguars teammate Trevor Lawrence became the latest quarterback to be injured this season. Lawrence went down in the second half of Jacksonville’s Monday Night Football game against the Cincinnati Bengals. He was clearly in a lot of pain, and did not return to the game. The Bengals went on to win in overtime.

Fun Fact of the Day

There have now been 145 times a player has recorded 100+ receptions in a season, including Keenan Allen of the Chargers in 2023.
