Patriots Daily: More Belichick Rumors; Burrow Injured on TNF
With the New England Patriots entering a bye week sitting at 2-8, more rumors are continuing to circulate around head coach Bill Belichick.
Dan Orlovsky of ESPN states he hears Belichick will be gone from New England in 2024, and is next destination is already determined. Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio indicates that working out a trade for Belichick is the most logical outcome for the Patriots. Dan Shaughnessy of The Boston Globe says that New England will not tank this season. Meanwhile, Albert Breer of The MMQB and Peter King of NBC Sports have been mapping out the best landing spots for Belichick.
Patriots Football Now tackled all of these topics long ago. No, the New England Patriots will not tank this season. It makes no sense to. And yes, Bill Belichick will coach in 2024 (there are several logical landing spots). None of this should be considered breaking news, as it all has been obvious for quite some time. Just the same, with New England not playing this week, everyone has something to say.
Meanwhile, reports from the likes of Ben Volin from two weeks ago appear to have fallen short of the mark:
“If Belichick loses at home to the Commanders and then to the Colts, and comes home from Germany with a 2-8 record, I think there’s a chance the Krafts could make the move in the bye week and install Jerod Mayo as the interim coach for the final seven games.”
It remains almost unfathomable to this writer that Robert Kraft would consider firing Bill Belichick during the season. It is also a near certainty that Belichick will continue to coach in the NFL beyond 2023. And despite reports that his time in New England has come to an end, folks should not rule out a return to Foxboro in 2024 either.
