Patriots Daily: Belichick Wins 300; Big Day for Underdogs

Published

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick

With yesterday’s New England Patriots win over the Buffalo Bills, their head coach hit a huge milestone. Bill Belichick joined the exclusive 300 wins club. He is just the third coach in NFL history to win 300 regular season games, joining Don Shula (328) and George Halas (318). It was reported yesterday that Belichick had signed a “lucrative multi-year contract” in the offseason. After week’s of speculation about his coaching future, yesterday was finally a day for some celebration in Foxboro.

New England wasn’t the only underdog to be victorious yesterday. Of the five teams that began the day with only one win, four of them won yesterday. In addition to the Patriots, the Bears, Broncos and Giants all notched wins as well. Only the Cardinals, who happened to be the lone road team of the group, lost.

All of that, plus Sean McDermott, Tyler Bagent, Pat Harlow and more in today’s edition of Patriots Daily…

Fun Fact of the Day

Yesterday’s Patriots Daily Fun Fact noted that of the 1,339 players who have played in an NFL game for the Buffalo Bills there were 16 named Bill. Today we look at the how many of the 1,370 New England Patriots have been named Pat.

The answer is four (with games played for the Patriots):

74 Pat Harlow (1991-1995)
24 Pat O’Neil (1994-1995)
14 Pat Studstill (1972)
1 Pat Coleman (1990)

Apologies to Patrick Chung, and all others who came close to qualifying.

Tweet of the Day

Today’s PFN Tweet of the Day comes from Patriots Uniform Tracker (@PatsUnis) with a breakdown of how successful the New England Patriots have been wearing their silver pants, as they did yesterday. If the Red Sox could wear yellow to try and keep their luck going, why can’t the Patriots keep wearing one of their actual colors?
