FOXBOROUGH (Mass.) – The Foxborough Police Department announced in a press release today that charges could be filed against three Rhode Island men in relation to the death of New England Patriots fan Dale Mooney last month.

A longtime Patriots season ticket holder, Dale Mooney, died on Sep. 17, 2023. The Newmarket, N.H. native was attending the Sunday Night Football game between the New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins. Foxborough PD stated the cause of Mooney’s death is currently listed as undetermined. It was originally reported that Mooney died of a “medical emergency.”

The press release from the Foxborough Police Department reads:

“The Foxborough Police Department has applied for criminal complaints alleging assault and battery and disorderly conduct against three Rhode Island men stemming from the September 17, 2023 altercation between fans at Gillette Stadium that ended with a New Hampshire man collapsing and later being pronounced dead at a local hospital.”

Videos taken by fans at the game show an altercation between Mooney and Dolphins fans. At some point during the entanglement, Mooney went down. Medical assistance arrived soon after. It is unclear if they Rhode Island men at the Dolphins fans seen in the video. Their names have not yet been released.
